The City of Cotati is partnering with Sonoma County and other jurisdictions to develop an HCP/NCCP called “Conservation Sonoma.” An HCP (Habitat Conservation Plan) and NCCP (Natural Community Conservation Plan) are frameworks to balance environmental conservation with land development. Conservation Sonoma aims to help landowners by offering a clear set of guidelines to protect species, such as the endangered California Tiger Salamander, while moving forward with development projects. Instead of dealing with multiple permitting agencies for each new development – often a costly and time-consuming process – the plan will provide a roadmap to mitigate impacts and build a sustainable future.
