Reducing water use is critical to sustainability and maintaining quality of life for Cotati residents. The City offers a number of resources and programs to help residents and businesses save water.
Protecting and growing our urban forest is key to reducing and adapting to climate change, since trees reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide levels, absorb air pollutants, and help keep neighborhoods cooler, which reduces energy use.
City policies to increase building density within our city limits can promote affordable housing development, limit sprawl, protect greenbelts and open space, and facilitate walking and biking for transportation
The City of Cotati is partnering with Sonoma County and other jurisdictions to develop an HCP/NCCP called “Conservation Sonoma.” An HCP (Habitat Conservation Plan) and NCCP (Natural Community Conservation Plan) are frameworks to balance environmental conservation with land development.
